How I Classify My Work
A practical guide to the creative categories used throughout the gallery
My work is created using a wide range of digital tools, including traditional image-editing software, mobile applications, locally running software, and cloud-based AI tools. Because the tools overlap, I classify each piece primarily by how it was created, not by which software was involved.
Photography
Photography begins and remains fundamentally a photograph. The image may be sharpened, cropped, color-corrected, adjusted for brightness or contrast, or cleaned up by removing distracting elements. These changes refine the photograph without substantially changing what was originally captured.
Photo Art
Photo Art begins with one or more photographs but goes beyond conventional photographic editing. Images may be combined, substantially transformed, reconstructed, stylized, or otherwise digitally manipulated to create a finished work that differs meaningfully from the original photograph.
Digital Art
Digital Art is created primarily in the digital environment and does not depend on a significant photographic foundation. It may incorporate drawing, compositing, generative tools, AI-assisted creation, or other digital techniques.
The boundaries are intentionally practical rather than technical. Modern creative tools often blur traditional distinctions, so these classifications describe the role photography played in creating the finished piece rather than attempting to catalog every tool or technique used.
